Winter Time Bass Fishing
Bass fishing in winter months can be very tough. Like humans and all other animals bass do not like to move much in the winter and like to store up on food to avoid having to hunt as often. The key to catching bass in the winter is to use large baits and fish them very slow. Brush hogs tend to work well in the winter months when bass fishing. A large jig or chatterbair with a pork trailer will also do the trick. If a bass is going to have to move around a lot in the cold water the treat better be worth it. Think big! This time of the year is a perfect time to bust out those 12inch worms you bought at walmart for 10 cents.
When fishing for bass in the winter time use large baits like mentioned above, but also remember to fish very slow. Remember winter, bigger and slower - summer, smaller and faster. Also try and keep your baits warm, for example place them in your back pocket or in your coat. A warmer bait will work better in the cold waters.
Always remember to bundle up when bass fishing in the winter you never know when unexpected weather could come your way!
the best luck ive had in the winter is with a large rapala crankbait….diving to about 10′ depth and bouncing it off of any rocks or sticks i can find. this trick has landed some of the biggest bass ive ever caught in some of the coldest weather ive ever been in. last year my fishing partner and i consistently caught fish from 3 to 8 pounds all day using just crankbaits… shad color has always been the biggest producer of fish, but i also use the white or chartruese colors in clearer water….they work great to. i sit about 15′to20′ off the rocks and cast parralel with the shore line and let it hit off of any rocks on the way….i landed a 7 pound largemouth last saturday doing this… it never fails.
yea ive been catching some good fish fishing a jerkbait on rocky points. and also around deep docks on the main channel. i try to only fish the points with large amounts of pea gravel these seem to produce good quality fish i also fish a jig on these points. but yea thats some of the other great ways to catchem in the dead winter.
during the summer months i have had my best luck fishing shallow channels with fat raps just let it sit there and let the bait do the work after about 5 minutes give it a good jerk and itll work everytime
during the winter months bass are moving slow so i fish really fast as fast as ican. i make as much noise as possible. i wake up around noon and get out on the water about 4. my first choice when bass fishing is using bread it seems to not work at all it always fall off the hook. my 2 choice is poring dr. pepper all around my boat the sweetness will scare all the fish away. as the day goes on and im not catching anything i whip out my bottle of whiskey and pretend im catching big bass its a blast so try these tips on bass fishing and you will be a top angler.
GOOD LUCK
