If you were asked to pick your favorite trail, which one would it be? Here is our list. Happy Trails!

NORTHEAST
Breakneck Ridge Trail

Location: Hudson Highlands State Park, Beacon NY

The trail: Great day hike, especially for easy access from NYC

Trail magic: Hudson river, Shawangunk, and Catskill Mountains vistas; old fire lookout tower; mixed forest; mountain laurel and spring and summer wildflowers.

More info: Hudson Highlands State Park; PH: (845) 225-7207

MOUNTAIN WEST
Glacier Gorge
Location: Estes Park, Colorado

The hike: About 12 miles; follow Glacier Gorge Trailhead to Alberta Falls, then to Mills, Jewel and Black Lakes. From Black, along unimproved trails to Frozen Lake, then returning toward Black Lake via Blue Lake.

Trail magic: Bring your fishing rod and camera as this park takes you thru some of the most beautiful terrain in RMNP including several alpine lakes and a spectacular waterfall.

MIDWEST
Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore - Lakeshore Trail
Location: Alger County, MI

The hike: This 48-mile stretch is a very heavily-used backcountry segment of the North Country Trail, partly because of the rugged, scenic, often remote coastline, 50-200 feet above Lake Superior was at a higher level

Trail magic: The sandstone cliffs towering above Lake Superior stimulate your imagination with strange formations and brightly painted pictures formed by mineral deposits and water. Sand dunes at the other end of the park sweep high against the sky and promise vistas from their crests.

More info: Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, PO Box 40, Munising MI 49862

SOUTHEAST
Mount Mitchell
Location: Ashville, NC

The trail: Mt. Mitchell Trail , a 5.6 mile trek that begins at 3200' at Black Mountain Campground and ends at the summit of Mt. Mitchell.

Trail magic: Mount Mitchell is the highest peak in the state and also the highest point east of the Mississippi.

More Info: Mount Mitchell State Park; 2388 State Highway 128, Burnsville, NC 28714; (828) 675-4611

Havasu Falls: Agency: Dreamstime.com
SOUTHWEST
Havasu Canyon
Location: Seligman, AZ

The trail: The trail begins at Hualapai Hilltop which is a parking area with no facilities. All hikers must obtain advance approval from the Havasupai Tourist enterprise before starting into the canyon. The canyon heads north some 20 miles, eventually running into the Colorado River.

8 miles from Hualapai Hilltop to Supai.
Supai to Navajo Falls 1.5 miles.
Supai to Havasu Falls 2 miles.
Supai to Mooney Falls 3 miles.

Trail magic: The spectacular natural setting with the clear blue-green waters of Havasu Creek and the incredible waterfalls that are formed as the creek tumbles toward the Colorado River is also home of the Havasupai Indians.

More Info: Havasupai Tourist Enterprise, P.O. Box 160 Supai AZ, 86435. Tel. 928-448-2121 or 928-448-2141.

WESTCOAST
American River Confluence to Lake Clementine

Location: Auburn, CA

The trail: Start near the confluence of the north and middle forks of the American River, and follow the North Fork’s deep and rocky canyon journey where it is interrupted by serene Lake Clementine. Fishing is good, and you may see mountain bikers and horseback riders.

Trail magic: Contrasting is king on this hike. You’ll encounter raging rapids, soothing pools, a loud waterfall at a dam, and a tranquil lake
